August had a lot to offer cycling fans: The biggest World Cycling Championships in history is definitely a highlight of the past month. We have picked out the 20 most beautiful cycling pictures.

The World Cycling Championships in particular, which have never taken place in this form before, will be remembered for many wonderful moments. Lotte Kopecky drew a lot of attention to herself by winning three gold medals directly after finishing second in the Tour de France Femmes. For Mathieu van der Poel, things got tight again shortly before the finish of the World Championship road race after a crash.

Three gold medals for Lotte Kopecky

Lotte Kopecky outdid herself at this year's World Cycling Championships. The Tour runner-up took first place in the elimination race, the points race and the road race. The Belgian was more than just praised for this by her team.

World Championship gold for Germany

Antonia Niedermaier has had a turbulent year so far: she won a stage at the Giro, but had to abandon the race the following day after a serious crash. In August, however, she was able to take part in the World Cycling Championships again - and with the gold medal in the U23 individual time trial, she achieved her biggest victory in her young career to date.

After winning a stage of the Giro and then crashing heavily the following day, she secured the world title in the U23 individual time trial, her face still scarred from the crash. Emma Hinze also won gold for Germany. The 25-year-old beat her opponents in the 500 metre time trial. The German only needed 32.820 seconds for the 500 metres.

Further racing highlights of August

In addition to the big World Cycling Championships, August also had other racing highlights in store. At the Cyclassics in Hamburg, spectators were once again treated to an exciting bunch sprint, while the Arctic Race of Norway focussed on the beautiful scenery as well as the racing action.

The next highlight of the 2023 cycling season kicked off at the end of the month with the Vuelta a Espana. The first two stages were characterised by bad weather. At the first mountain finish in Andorra, Remco Evenepoel showed how strong he is, but collided with a woman at the finish line and suffered a laceration over his right eye.
