January saw the first races of the UCI Women's World Tour and the UCI World Tour with the Tour Down Under and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race. But it wasn't just Australia that provided spectacular cycling images. The European Track Cycling Championships, Cyclocross and the Mallorca Challenge were further highlights.

Let's start at the beginning. On 4 January, the Duinencross had a huge pit for the cyclocross racers. And in typical Belgian style, countless spectators stood on the sidelines to cheer on the professional cyclists and catch a glimpse of one or two of them. Michael Vanthourenhout, Mathieu Van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Laurens Sweeck battle their way through the deep sand in Koksijde. Two worlds in one photo.

European Track Cycling Championships

Lea Sophie Friedrich, Pauline Sophie Grabosch and Emma Hinze won the European Championship gold medal in the team sprint. We have a reading recommendation to go with the sprinters' team: The TOUR interview with Pauline Grabosch. The 26-year-old talks a lot about herself, her path to sport, about Pauline as a person and about not losing herself. And about the goal - Olympic gold in 2024.

Watch out, kangaroo, watch out, koala bear

The kangaroo road sign is only at the top of the gallery, for the highlights of the highlight photos we've opted for the koala bear. Every year, the UCI World Tour and the UCI Women's World Tour head to Australia for the Tour Down Under.

Ouch! That looks painful. It wasn't just his racing kit that took a beating, but also an estimated half a square metre of skin when Australian Luke Plapp was involved in a crash on stage 3 of the Tour Down Under 2024.

Malle is only once a year?!

The Mallorca Challenge attracted cyclists to the popular cycling island of Mallorca. Here, the Italian Eleonora Gasparrini crosses the finish line full of joy and wins the 3rd and final stage of the Women's Challenge Mallorca.

The men's Mallorca Challenge took place over five days on the island. And because it is so beautiful there and the climate is inviting in spring, there is not just one, but two Two TOUR training camps on Mallorca. From 24 February to 2 March, Santa Ponsa in the west of Mallorca is the starting point for tours. From 23 to 30 March, Alcúdia in the east of the island is the base.
