Ackermann wins at the start of the Tour of Austria

German professional cyclist Pascal Ackermann has won the first stage of the Tour of Austria. After 147.6 kilometres with start and finish in Dornbirn, the 29-year-old took victory in a sprint ahead of the Colombian Jhonatan Narvaez and compatriot Kim Heiduk.

It was Ackermann's second win of the season after winning the eleventh stage of the Giro d'Italia. "I'm super happy. The finish is three kilometres from my home. All my friends were there. I was able to show that I'm in good shape," said Ackermann, who now lives near Bregenz. The team-mate of Tadej Pogacar was not considered for the Tour de France.
