After Vuelta cancellation: Buchmann to start at Deutschland Tour

"He prepared really well for the Vuelta with altitude training. If it works somehow and he is healthy, we would like to use it for the Deutschland Tour," said Rolf Aldag, sports director of Buchmann's Bora-hansgrohe team, to the German Press Agencyr.

Buchmann had to pull out of the Tour of Spain at short notice due to a urinary tract infection. The illness is under control so far, emphasised Aldag. But you always pay a price for infections somewhere.

The two Tour starters Lennard Kämna and Maximilian Schachmann will have to decide on Monday whether they will be able to start the Tour at home. Both were in poor health after the Tour of France. It's also about "not sending guys into the fire who are only half fit", said Aldag. However, last year's winner Nils Politt from Cologne is certain to take part. The Deutschland Tour starts on Wednesday in Weimar and ends on Sunday in Stuttgart.
