Eight months after his life-threatening crash, Colombian cycling star Egan Bernal wants to gain race practice at the Tour of Germany.
Bernal wants to collect race kilometres
"I want to ride as many races as possible and collect kilometres. I'm very happy to be back after almost being dead," said Bernal. The 25-year-old finished 73rd in the prologue in Weimar.
Bernal crashed into a stationary bus at high speed during training in his home country in January. The 2019 Tour winner suffered more than 20 broken bones and was in a coma for three days. He still feels the consequences today. "There's a lot of metal in my body. I'm like Robocop," Bernal told the dpa. He hopes to have "a normal season again" next year.
