Tailfin presents the SpeedPack saddle bag for road cyclists who want to combine speed and storage space. The ten-plus-three-litre system weighs just 350 grams and uses a carbon internal structure for maximum rigidity. The waterproof construction with rear access is aimed at ultra-distance riders and bikepackers. The new FitLink connection system offers three length options from 30 to 90 millimetres and 50 degree angle adjustment. Prices start at 225 euros for the bag alone.

The British company Tailfin presents the SpeedPack, a saddle bag for road cyclists who want to combine minimum weight with maximum storage space. The system is aimed at ultra-distance riders, bikepackers and road cyclists who do not want to compromise on speed on multi-day tours. It was developed in collaboration with endurance athletes such as Lachlan Morton and Justinas Leveikas.

The SpeedPack system solves typical problems of conventional saddlebags with an integrated arch structure that eliminates swaying and distributes the weight evenly. The rear access makes it easy to stow heavy items, while the compression makes every cubic centimetre usable. This design differs fundamentally from Tailfin's CargoPack, which has a large opening at the top.

Construction and materials

The SpeedPack uses a combination of 420D Hypalon and Diamond ripstop nylon. The more robust Hypalon material is used in high-wear areas, while the lighter ripstop nylon is used at the opening of the bag. All seams are welded instead of stitched, which ensures a waterproof construction. This finish protects the contents from the elements and increases the durability of the system.

The internal frame structure consists of two customised carbon plates that provide a solid base for attachment to arches and seat post connectors. This carbon construction replaces the usual aluminium internal frame of the standard CargoPacks and reduces the weight while maintaining the same stiffness. The smaller load volume made this weight reduction possible without compromising structural integrity.

FitLink connection system

The SpeedPack introduces Tailfin's new FitLink seatpost connection system. This system extends the tried-and-tested over-centre connector with significantly more adjustment options. The connector comes with three length options: 30, 60 and 90 millimetres. The angle adjustment offers almost 50 degrees of user-definable vertical leeway for adaptation to different frames and seatposts.

This adjustability allows front-to-rear adjustment to prevent thigh friction and creates a targeted gap to reduce abrasion between the bag and saddle or seatpost. The system also takes dropper posts and full mountain bikes into account by providing space for system compression. Riders with small frames and mountain bikers in particular benefit from this flexibility.

Equipment and features

The external mesh pocket expands the capacity by up to 3 litres and provides quick access to snacks, layers of clothing or other items needed on the go. A secure drawstring system with latch prevents loss of gear while riding. For racers and adventurers, this bag is ideal for storing GPS trackers in an optimal position for clear signal reception.

Two accessory mounts on the back of the SpeedPack allow the installation of lights, additional luggage or bottle cages. These 64-millimetre bottle cage mounts offer additional hydration or storage options. The system supports weight limits of 8 kilograms on the road and 4 kilograms off-road, with an additional 9 and 4 kilograms per side respectively when using panniers.

System integration and compatibility

The SpeedPack fully integrates into Tailfin's existing rack ecosystem. Backwards compatibility with all existing arches allows you to choose between integrated mounting on the rack or fully removable mounting. Four different rack options allow you to expand your setup with panniers or other accessories without compromise.

Compatibility extends to panniers, dropper posts, small frames and mountain bike setups for both hardtails and full-suspension bikes. This versatility makes the system the first choice for riders who value performance and flexibility in equal measure. Whether for continental races or local overnight tours - the SpeedPack adapts to different areas of use.

Price and availability

The pure SpeedPack bag, compatible with existing Tailfin pannier racks, costs 225 euros. As an integrated luggage carrier system with a permanently connected arch, prices start at 365 euros for the aluminium version. The carbon version of the integrated system costs 425 euros. This price structure makes it possible for existing Tailfin users as well as complete new systems to get started.

Tailfin grants a five-year guarantee against manufacturing defects from the date of purchase. In the event of manufacturing defects, the company will repair or replace the product. For crash-related damage, Tailfin offers a 30 per cent discount on equivalent replacement products. These warranty services emphasise the manufacturer's confidence in product quality and help riders get back on the road after accidents.
