The traditional Swiss watch brand Tissot has teamed up with the Italian bike manufacturer Pinarello to present a watch that expresses their shared enthusiasm and roots in cycling.

The importance of Pinarello in cycling does not need to be explained to anyone who is interested in the sport. Since its foundation in 1952, 15 victories in the Tour de France have been won on racing bikes from Treviso, along with a similar number in the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España. However, the roots of the more than 170-year-old watch brand Tissot from Switzerland are no less deep. Based in Le Locle in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, the company is a partner of Tour de France organiser ASO and provides the official timekeeping for the Tour de France, Tour de France Femmes and other high-calibre races.

Collaboration between Tissot and Pinarello

What is new, however, is the collaboration between Pinarello and Tissot to create a specially designed watch for fans, riders and collectors of the brands, based on the characteristic features of the racing bike manufacturer.

According to the partners, the 42-millimetre case is made from the same carbon material used in Pinarello's Dogma frames. The asymmetrical silhouette with the crown at 10 o'clock is inspired by the fork design with the "flaps" at the dropouts. The Pinarello logo is engraved on the right-hand side of the case. The grey dial, whose texture is inspired by asphalt according to the designers, can be seen through the box-shaped sapphire crystal. The shape of the second hand echoes the "P" as Pinarello's brand emblem and is in the colour borealis.

Tissot describes the centrepiece of the watch as a COSC-Powermatic 80 movement with high accuracy regardless of the terrain. The watch is water-resistant to a pressure of 10 bar. There is a choice of a robust rubber strap or a handmade Italian leather strap. The watch comes in an elegant collector's box and costs €1,495.

His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
