Smart theft protection from Bosch: Report stolen e-bikes and components via app

The fight against e-bike theft takes on a new dimension. At the Consumer Electronics Show CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Bosch eBike Systems is presenting a digital theft protection system that is designed to make the sale of stolen electric bikes much more difficult. The new feature utilises the connectivity of the smart system and permanently blocks stolen bikes in the digital ecosystem.
The technology is based on the digital assignment principle, in which the motor, battery and display are clearly registered. Each component is linked to a specific user profile. This architecture makes it possible to identify and lock stolen devices system-wide. The company is thus systematically expanding its theft protection portfolio of eBike Lock, eBike Alarm and Battery Lock, which it has been developing since 2018.
Resale of stolen bikes excluded
The new function will be launched free of charge in the eBike Flow app at the end of January 2026. Users can mark stolen eBikes or batteries as stolen with just a few clicks. This information is stored centrally and can be accessed throughout the Bosch eBike Systems digital cosmos. The eBike Flow app, the DiagnosticTool and Bosch Support access the same data.
If second-hand buyers, specialist dealers or authorities attempt to establish a connection with a marked e-bike, a clear warning appears. The app displays the serial numbers of the components marked as stolen. A connection to the eBike Flow app is permanently blocked. Over-the-air updates and customised riding mode settings no longer work.
Service alerts directly to specialist dealers
The DiagnosticTool provides workshops with additional security. The diagnostic software from Bosch eBike Systems displays a warning when technicians connect an e-bike marked as stolen for a service. This function is designed to make it considerably more difficult for thieves to make stolen bikes saleable again through professional maintenance.
The digital tag can only be removed by the originally registered user profile. Even technically savvy thieves should not be able to bypass the blocking, as the information is stored centrally. The system aims to make stolen e-bikes practically unusable for illegal resale and at the same time increase the chances of recovery.
Remote control for commercial fleets
Alongside private theft protection, Bosch eBike Systems is introducing extended control functions for commercial users. E-bike sharing providers, hire companies and company fleets are given active control options via the Bosch Connect module. The remote deactivation of the motor support is intended to help with unreturned rental bikes in particular.
A cloud interface also gives commercial users direct access to important operating data: Battery status, range forecast, service intervals, maintenance requirements, GPS position when tracking is activated and detailed usage statistics are available there. This enables integration into existing fleet management systems and is intended to support the growing market of professional e-bike fleets.
