The new Giro was specially designed to meet the requirements of racing cyclists such as Vingegaard & Co, according to the accessories specialist from California/USA. The Eclipse Pro was developed in the company's own research and development laboratory and aerodynamically tested in the wind tunnel. The result is a helmet that aims to square the circle: Top aerodynamics, low weight and good ventilation. Giro claims that the Eclipse Pro is the fastest road bike helmet in the company's history to date.
The model is no longer completely new. Prominent riders such as Vingegaard, Ferrand-Prévot and Wout van Aert already wore the Eclipse Pro at last year's Tour de France. The helmet was also used by MTB pros Alessandra Keller and Kate Courtney in races.
Compared to the predecessor model called Eclipse, the new Pro version is said to have 17 per cent less air resistance. Giro gives the weight as 280 grams (size M). The necessary ventilation is provided by 14 openings. MIPS technology and an intuitive strap system are intended to round off the high-end helmet character.
In view of the superlatives with which the Eclipse Pro was presented, the road bike helmet also ranks in the upper price segment. Giro quotes an RRP of 329.99 euros. There is a choice of three sizes and eight colour variants. The market launch is planned for 15 February, according to the US manufacturer.
