The Sidi Wire 3 is one of the best-known models in the Italian brand’s premium range. This high-end road cycling shoe has now been completely redesigned. Sidi promises better ventilation, an optimised fit and an extremely stiff sole for optimum power transfer – all whilst weighing just 230 grams per shoe.

Topics in this article

The name ‘Wire’ has a long tradition at Sidi. For years, this model has been one of the Italian brand’s sportiest road cycling shoes and is aimed at ambitious cyclists, marathon riders and competitive athletes.

With its third generation, Sidi is focusing primarily on three areas: Fit, ventilation and power transfer. The aim was to develop a shoe that offers maximum comfort and efficiency even during prolonged periods of exertion or in high temperatures.

Conclusion from the editor’s perspective

With these eye-catching retro models, road cyclists can New Wire 3 make a fashion statement. More importantly, however, Sidi has focused particularly on the fit and ventilation of its new high-end model. These are THE factors that really matter on long, gruelling stages.

Micro Matrix and Kevlar for improved ventilation

One of the key innovations lies in the upper. For the Wire 3, Sidi combines robust Kevlar with a structure known as ‘Micro Matrix’, utilising different material densities within the shoe. This construction is designed to provide targeted stability whilst also improving air circulation.

Ventilation is becoming increasingly important, particularly in road cycling, where riders often struggle with heat build-up during long climbs or in summer temperatures. The Wire 3 is designed to keep the foot cool and dry at all times, without compromising on support.

Focus on fit

The developers also focused on improving the fit. According to Sidi, the so-called Millennium Fit is more closely aligned with the natural anatomy of the foot and is designed to prevent pressure points. The upper is designed to envelop the foot particularly evenly and, in particular, to stabilise the midfoot. Unlike traditional designs, the system utilises an anatomical fit without placing excessive strain on individual areas.

As is customary with Sidi’s high-end models, the Wire 3 also features a fully adjustable heel lock. This allows the support in the heel area to be individually adjusted – a feature that has been one of the Italian brand’s well-known specialities for years.

Stiff carbon sole for maximum efficiency

In competition, every watt counts. Accordingly, the Wire 3 features a carbon sole designed to ensure the most direct power transfer possible. This is complemented by an integrated insole and a nylon midsole in the construction. There is also an independent cleat adjustment system, which allows for precise adjustment of the cleat position.

Double twist lock for precise adjustment

When it comes to adjustment, Sidi relies on its tried-and-tested Dual-Dial system with two twist locks. This allows the forefoot and midfoot areas to be adjusted independently of one another. This can be a particular advantage on long rides, when the shape of the foot changes slightly as the ride progresses.
