With the Terra Solocush Tacky, Fizik presents a new premium handlebar tape that has been specially designed for demanding use on gravel bikes. With a thickness of 3.5 mm, the handlebar tape aims to improve comfort and vibration damping when riding off-road. The developers have focussed on a combination of grip, damping and easy installation.
One of the main features of the Terra Solocush Tacky is its non-slip, sticky surface. According to the manufacturer, this should ensure maximum grip in all conditions. This feature is particularly advantageous for off-road riding, where vibrations and changing surfaces can make a secure grip difficult. The embossed line structure on the surface should also maximise grip and control in any riding situation. Fizik emphasises that the handlebar tape offers a secure grip even without gloves, which can be particularly advantageous on long tours or in changing weather conditions.
With a thickness of 3.5 mm, the Terra Solocush Tacky is one of the thicker handlebar tapes on the market. This additional material thickness should primarily benefit vibration damping. Especially on bumpy gravel tracks or dirt roads, effective damping can significantly increase riding comfort and prevent signs of fatigue in the hands. The softer and more elastic material, which the manufacturer refers to as "single-layer material", should also make assembly easier.
Fizik has clearly positioned the Terra Solocush Tacky in the gravel segment. The combination of increased thickness, grippy surface and improved damping is aimed at cyclists who regularly ride off-road with their racing handlebars. The tape is designed to help maintain control of the bike even on challenging surfaces and at the same time increase comfort on longer distances.
I have already ridden the handlebar tape. It grips well and is comfortable. After 150 kilometres, it is not yet possible to assess its durability. - Sandra Schuberth, TOUR editor
