Elite, the Italian manufacturer of roller trainers and other indoor training solutions, presents an update for its smart trainers. The Direto, Suito and Justo models - including older generations - are now fully compatible with the Zwift Cog & Click virtual circuit. This expansion is in line with Elite's philosophy of future-proofing existing devices through technological advancements without requiring customers to replace their existing hardware. Only the Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit needs to be purchased for the reasonable price of currently €79.99.
The centrepiece of the new functionality is Zwift Click, an intuitive two-button controller for mounting on the handlebars. It can be used to seamlessly shift 24 virtual gears while riding - regardless of the physical equipment of the bike fitted. According to Elite, the virtual shifting is designed to provide a more natural, quieter and more immersive riding experience. The system is complemented by the Zwift Cog, a specially developed sprocket designed to make it easier to switch between different bikes. It is compatible with most 8- to 12-speed groupsets. For the conversion, the existing cassette simply needs to be removed and the cog fitted. Virtual shifting can then be used directly. This solution allows cyclists to use different bikes flexibly with the trainer without having to change the entire cassette every time.
The firmware update from Elite is available for a wide range of smart trainers. Specifically, the Direto, Direto X, Direto XR Team, Justo, Suito and Suito-T models will benefit from the new function. Owners of these devices can conveniently carry out the update via the Upgrado app on their smartphone or tablet. The process only requires a Bluetooth connection between the trainer and the mobile device. You then need to follow the instructions in the app to activate compatibility with Zwift Cog & Click. The update process is even easier for the latest Avanti and Justo 2 models. These indoor trainers have an integrated Wi-Fi connection and update their firmware automatically as soon as a new version is available.
According to Elite, the integration of Zwift Cog & Click functionality into existing trainer models shows that innovation does not necessarily require the replacement of hardware. Instead, clever software updates can be used to create new experiences that make indoor training more realistic and varied. This approach should particularly appeal to customers who value the sustainability and long-term usability of their training equipment.
