Look Keo Blade Power and X-Track Power: Two new power meter pedals for road and gravel bikes

Look Cycle presents two new power meter pedals for road and off-road: Keo Blade Power for road and X-Track Power for off-road, each available with single or dual power measurement. The manufacturer specifies the precision as +/-1 per cent.

In a nutshell: The new power meter pedals from Look, developed and manufactured in France, are lightweight, easy to install and the Q-factor and stack values are identical to the regular Look Keo Blade or X-Track pedals - practical because the bike settings do not have to be changed. You can choose between one-sided and two-sided power measurement.

Power and weight

The Keo Blade Power road bike pedals weigh 260 grams per pair. The 705 square millimetre contact surface transfers the power from the legs via the pedal to the crank. Naturally, the Keo Blade Power utilises blade technology, which also gives the pedals their name. It enables an aerodynamic design and a low pedal profile. The aim is to save watts.

Now to the gravel or off-road pedal, the Look X-Track Power. The pedal body is made from recycled aluminium and weighs 404 grams per pair - no, not Error 404. The contact surface of the SPD-compatible pedals is 540 millimetres in size.

Look promises accurate measurement

According to the press release, Look's watt measurement pedals utilise the latest generation of electronic components in combination with proven algorithms. This enables precise power measurement with reliable data and an accuracy of +/- 1 per cent.

One-sided or two-sided watt measurement

Both pedals, Keo Blade Power and X-Track Power, are available with one-sided or two-sided power measurement. The "Dual" version measures total power, cadence and the balance between the left and right pedals to provide the rider with the most accurate data. With the "Single" version, only the left pedal is measured and the data, such as the balance, is calculated using an algorithm.

Easy installation and connectivity

The pedals can be fitted to the bike with a 15 millimetre spanner. An auto-calibration system, developed and patented by Look's research and development team, enables quick and easy set-up. As the Q-factor of the pedals and the stack height are identical to the regular Look pedals, there is no need to adjust the bike or seating position.

The power meter pedals are equipped with Bluetooth and ANT+ for data synchronisation and connectivity. Data such as normalised power, intensity factor, power zones, training load, functional threshold power, smooth pedalling, torque effectiveness and more are made available in processed form in the Look app. The app also contains instructions on how to install the pedals, as well as warranty registration, firmware updates and product support. The Look app is also used to calibrate and adjust the settings and monitor the battery status.

Look specifies a battery life of up to 60 hours. Only ultra-cyclists need to worry about recharging the pedals' batteries before the end of the race. The battery charge is sufficient for day or even weekend tours. It takes a maximum of two hours for the batteries to be fully charged again. Both pedals can be charged simultaneously via USB-C. Magnetic connections are installed for this purpose.

Developed with athletes

The new pedals were developed and tested in collaboration with athletes. The X-Track Power pedals meet the requirements of the IPX7 test and survive an underwater dive of 30 minutes at a depth of one metre. The Keo Blade Power pedals have a new lever shape that ensures improved durability and a balanced centre of gravity. This should make it easier to click in.

The electronic components and batteries are integrated into the pedal axle. This should eliminate the risk of water, mud and dust infiltration. Another practical feature is that the pedal body can be replaced independently of the pedal axle in the event of damage.

Power meter systems are not cheap and can sometimes represent a considerable investment for riders, especially if crashes are part of the sport. With an extended warranty and a staggered three-year replacement programme for registered products, Look wants to accommodate athletes.

At this point, it should be mentioned that the recently launched Favero Assioma Pro MX Powermeter pedals are slightly lighter than the Look X-Track Power at around 383 grams per pair (manufacturer's specification).
