Ewan wins first stage of the Tour of Germany

The favourite from Australia won the sprint in Meiningen on Thursday ahead of the Italian Jonathan Milan. Max Kanter took third place ahead of Felix Groß on the 171.7 kilometre stage that started in Weimar.
Ganna leads the overall standings
Italian Filippo Ganna continues to lead the overall standings. The time trial world champion is two seconds ahead of Dutchman Bauke Mollema and three seconds ahead of Milan and defending champion Nils Politt.
The rider from Cologne has a good chance of taking the red jersey from the race leader on Friday. On the 200.7 kilometres from Meiningen to Marburg two climbs have to be tackled on the final lap, making a sprint finish unlikely. The tour ends on 28 August in Stuttgart.
