Large flywheel mass for an ideal riding experience - our test shows whether the smart Hammer H2 indoor trainer from Cycleops delivers what it promises.

A rock in the surf: The Hammer H2 inherits key features from its predecessor, but the software in particular has been refined in detail and can also be updated by owners of the first Hammer model. The flywheel mass is ample and rolls out forever, the braking power is brutal when required. Wide, foldable and quickly adjustable feet give the Hammer a firm stand. The cadence is recorded without an external sensor, the response behaviour in Zwift is now very fast and the accuracy, which we criticised in the TOUR test 12/2017, is now also good. Without the app, the trainer behaves like a progressive brake with a wide range of use. This means that training is always possible as long as mains power is available. The volume is moderate at low speeds and does not swell excessively even when sprinting. Thanks to the handle and small pack size, the hammer is easy to handle and stow away. The manufacturer does not have its own app, but the hammer is compatible with standard software.
