Reserve is giving its competition-orientated wheels an update: the new models combine lightweight carbon rims with high-end hubs from Tune. Available in three different rim depths, the lightest version should weigh 1140 grams. The price per set is 3499 euros.

The new collection is based on weight-optimised carbon rims, which the US wheel specialist presented last year together with the Cervélo R5. According to the manufacturer, the Reserve SL Turbulent Aero offers the same aerodynamic advantage and stiffness as the standard models, but is said to be 60 grams lighter per wheelset. In combination with specially developed hubs from Tune, further weight can be saved depending on the wheel model. The Pico wheels from the tuning specialist from Buggingen/Baden-Württemberg are said to save between 51 and 84 grams.



For the lightest version with 34 or 37 millimetre high rims, Reserve quotes a system weight of 1140 grams (prev./h.: 502/638 grams). The fast wheels with 57/64 millimetre rims are said to offer the greatest savings potential: Compared to the standard setup with DT Swiss hubs (model 180), the new version saves just over 80 grams and weighs a total of 1470 grams (prev./h.: 646/824 grams).

Tune manufactures and assembles the hubs at the company headquarters in Buggingen, South Baden. The Pico hubs have been specially developed for Reserve's competition-orientated rims and have been adapted to the rim diameter and spoke hole offset. The hubs are based on the Tune models Mico and Nane, and the Pico should weigh 275 grams per set including the freehub body and end rings.

The wheelsets are also characterised by 24 carbon spokes from Vonoa. The scope of delivery includes tubeless tape, Fillmore valves, freehub bodies for XDR and HG as well as spare spokes and nipples. However, don't expect a bargain: the price per set is 3499 euros.
