Mathieu van der Poel gewinnt Mailand-San Remo 2023
Cross world champion Mathieu van der Poel has won the 114th edition of the Milan-San Remo spring classic.

The Dutchman from Alpecin-Deceuninck After 294 kilometres, he soloed ahead of the Italian Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) and the Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) through. Top favourite Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) had to settle for fourth place. German riders played no part in the decision.

Milan-San Remo 2023: Van der Poel sets himself apart on the Poggio

Van der Poel broke away on the descent from the Poggio six kilometres before the finish and held on to his lead of a few seconds. This meant that 62 years after the triumph of his grandfather Raymond Poulidor, the classics specialist also managed to win Milan-San Remo.
