The Sparkassen Münsterland Giro 2024 starts in the small town of Haltern am See in the northern Ruhr region. From there, the route continues in a north-westerly direction before a short circuit around Ramsdorf. This is followed by the town of Coesfeld in an easterly direction, where the first climb of the day is tackled. There is also a loop here, so that the riders will once again ride over the Coesfelder Berg after also conquering the Daruper Berg. The riders then head east towards Münster. First there is an intermediate sprint classification on the way in Nienberge, then there is another circuit in the city: the finish line is crossed three times before the race ends at Schlossplatz in Münster on the fourth time.
Compared to last year, the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro 2024 is slightly longer with 202 kilometres to be completed, but it contains significantly fewer metres in altitude. The riders have to complete 1105 of them. Because the last 10 kilometres through the city centre of Münster are fairly flat, a bunch sprint is the most likely outcome.
Last year, Per Strand Hagenes managed to break away from the peloton 2.3 kilometres before the finish and celebrate a breakaway victory. This year, riders are likely to try and escape to the front again. Particularly between race kilometres 90 and 160, there are always crisp climbs that riders are likely to use to increase their speed. However, it is unlikely that these will be enough to finally break away from the peloton. There are also two ramps before the sprint classification in Nienberge, and riders will also try to put a spanner in the works of the sprinters on the final circuit. In the end, however, a bunch sprint remains the most likely scenario.
The Sparkassen Münsterland Giro 2024 will be broadcast live on TV and live stream on 3 October. The TV channel Eurosport 1 will broadcast the final of the race from 4 p.m., with the broadcast running until 6 p.m. The paid streaming provider Discovery Plus will broadcast the full race live from 12:50 to 18:00. There is also a free live stream at the Sports programmewhich will be showing the entire race in a live stream from 12:45 pm.
As in previous years, there will be numerous competitions for amateur cyclists alongside the professional race at the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro 2024. They will also take place on Thursday, 3 October 2024, parallel to the professional race. Participants can choose between three routes: The Sparkasse Münsterland Ost Cup covers 65 kilometres, the Provinzial Versicherung Cup is 95 kilometres long and, at 125 kilometres, the LBS Cup is the longest route.
There will also be an inclusive cycle race for people with disabilities, which covers 4.4 kilometres and runs through Münster's city centre. There are also two races for children between the ages of three and twelve, and the LeezenExpo takes place at the same time. At the fair, which opens on 2 October, visitors can find out about sport, health, nutrition and cycling.
