The TOUR Mallorca training camp in cooperation with Philipps Bike Team was an eventful and relaxed start to the 2026 racing bike season for the guests.

Topics in this article

Around 60 cyclists took the opportunity at the end of March to get in the mood and prepare for the season at the TOUR Training Camp Mallorca at Philipps Bike Team (PBT) in Playa de Muro. Under the aegis of PBT boss Hanns-Martin Fraas, the team led by sports director Yvonne Margraf and trainer Torsten Weber from PMP-Coaching put together an attractive and varied weekly programme.

Comprehensive support

In the evening briefings, the two explained the programme for the following day and gave specific training content that would build on each other over the course of the week. Lectures, for example on recommended nutrition during such an intensive training week, rounded off the evenings in a convivial atmosphere. The detailed explanations by industry veteran Frank Jeniche on the Wahoo and Speedplay products he represents also met with lively interest. TOUR editor Thomas Musch entertained the guests with fascinating insights into the work of the TOUR editorial team.

Unknown paths on Mallorca

Of course, the daily training rides, starting from the Hotel JS Alcudi Mar in Playa de Muro, took centre stage at the TOUR Mallorca training camp. Every participant had the opportunity to find a group that suited them, and it was always possible to switch to a slightly stronger or more relaxed peloton, which was gladly taken advantage of. The guides from Philipp's Bike Team proved to be intimate connoisseurs of the island. They carefully escorted their groups of different ability levels through the traffic - and always had tips ready for cosy cafés away from the well-known racing bike routes. The highlight of the week was the marathon day with the ride to Cap Formentor. After the tours, the camp guests met up on the cosy terrace by the hotel pool to catch up over drinks and bocadillos.

Test option

The new rental bikes from Philipps Bike Team also attracted a lot of attention. The Avona Velum is based on a lightweight carbon frame with a cleverly chosen endurance geometry and noticeable suspension comfort on the seat post, which made it easy for guests to get used to the bike so that they could take it out for longer rides. The aerodynamic Newmen wheels make the Velum a versatile and sporty bike. Customised adjustments to the saddle, stem or pedals were carried out quickly and easily by the workshop crew from Philipps Bike Team.

To summarise this week at the TOUR training camp: the guests not only took their improved form with them, but also many wonderful experiences and new acquaintances with like-minded people!

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
