Bahnrad-Weltmeisterin Emma Hinze fordert mehr Offenheit in der Gesellschaft.
Following her call to deal openly with the topic of menstruation among top female athletes, six-time track cycling world champion Emma Hinze has received mixed reactions.

"I've read some very negative comments. But if someone writes to me "Why don't you pop an Ibu", they haven't understood what I was trying to say," said the 25-year-old from Cottbus in an interview with Münchner Merkur and tz.

Hinze also receives positive feedback

No one should be afraid to talk about topics such as periods, the Hildesheim native urged. She has also received positive feedback: She had heard from her friend Maximilian Levy, the junior national coach, how young female athletes had approached him and dared to talk about the topic of menstruation and say that they were not feeling well. "I hope I've opened up something there," said Hinze.

In October, Hinze won gold in the team sprint, silver in the time trial and bronze in the sprint at the World Championships in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. She came fifth in this year's "Sportswoman of the Year" awards. After the European Championships in Munich in August, she announced a break and decided not to take part in the Champions League. "It was all a lot for my body," she reported. "I wanted to have time for myself again, to find peace and quiet. To really arrive again. That's done me a lot of good so far."
