Geht bei der Bahnrad-EM in Grenchen nicht an den Start: Stefan Bötticher.
The German Cycling Federation (BDR) will have to do without former world and European champion Stefan Bötticher at short notice at the European Track Cycling Championships in Grenchen.

The athlete from Chemnitz is again suffering from back problems and will miss the races in Switzerland from 8 to 12 February, as the federation announced.

National coach justifies Bötticher's withdrawal from the 2023 European Track Cycling Championships

"It's not dramatic, but I'm not as resilient as I should be. That's why we decided to skip the European Championships," explained the 31-year-old after consulting with national coach Jan van Eijden.

Bötticher had overdone a front squat shortly before Christmas. The symptoms finally disappeared and the reigning German champion in the sprint and keirin disciplines won the sprint competition at the 110th Berlin six-day race.

Bötticher plans to compete in the Nations Cup in Indonesia

Bötticher now wants to start the season and the Olympic qualification at the Nations Cup in Jakarta/Indonesia (from 23 February). "I have less travelling stress without the European Championships and can stabilise my back a bit at home," said Bötticher.
