Professional cyclist Nils Politt has replaced his team-mate Lennard Kämna as time trial champion at the German road championships in the Black Forest.

A few days before the start of the Tour de France, the rider from the top team Bora-hansgrohe proved his good form. The 29-year-old German champion won the individual time trial on the 32.5 kilometre course between Donaueschingen and Bad Dürrheim with a time of 38.52 minutes, eleven seconds ahead of Miguel Heidemann and 15 seconds ahead of Maximilian Schachmann in third place.

The result is disappointing for the previous time trial champion Kämna, who only finished ninth. Kämna crossed the finish line 45 seconds after Politt. On Sunday, the rider from Cologne can defend his title as German champion in addition to his first time trial success in the road race.

Kröger fastest driver

Mieke Kröger was the fastest rider in the women's time trial. The 29-year-old won by just under a second ahead of Katharina Fox, while Clara Koppenburg was the third-best time trialist. Kröger from Bielefeld took the title for the second time. Antonia Niedermaier and Moritz Kretschy won the U23 editions.

The women's road race is scheduled for Saturday. On Sunday, the men will start on the 215 kilometre route at 11.30 am in Donaueschingen. After five hours, the professionals are expected to cross the finish line in Bad Dürrheim.
