Gold again: Sprinter Hinze wins third track cycling title

The decisive third run was decided by the photo finish. After her successes in the team sprint with Pauline Grabosch (Chemnitz) and Lea Sophie Friedrich (Chemnitz) and in the 500 m time trial with a German record of 32.668 seconds, it was already the third gold for the sprint world champion on the wooden oval at the Munich Exhibition Centre.
"I'm fine again now. I went through all the emotions today. I didn't expect to win today," said Hinze.
Hinze had to vomit
Her stomach didn't cooperate all day. "I threw up, I cried, I thought I wouldn't make it," she reported. She couldn't eat anything and had no strength. But the team had built her up - now she is leaving Munich with three titles. "That's super nice. I still can't really believe that I won today," said Hinze.
National coach Jan van Eijden then explained that she would not compete in the keirin on Tuesday in consideration of her health and with a view to the World Championships from 12 to 16 October in Paris. "The last two days and the overall strain have taken the shoe off her so much that we say, also in view of the World Championships, that we will skip the keirin. She really wasn't feeling well today," reported the former sprint world champion.
Friedrich defeated in the small final
Meanwhile, Lea Sophie Friedrich lost in the small final to Laurine van Riessen from the Netherlands in two runs and thus missed out on her second medal.
In the 1000 metre time trial, Maximilian Dörnbach from Cottbus finished third in 1:00.225 minutes. Only Melvin Landerneau from France (59.975 seconds) and Italy's Matteo Bianchi (1:00.089 minutes) were faster. This means that the German Cycling Federation (BDR) has won six gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal ahead of the final day of the track cycling competitions.
