Liane Lippert ist wieder deutsche Straßenrad-Meisterin.

Liane Lippert defended her title and won the German road cycling championship once again.

The 25-year-old from Friedrichshafen from Movistar Team women pulled away early and enjoyed the solo finish after 135 kilometres between Donaueschingen and Bad Dürrheim with her arms raised. It was her third German championship title overall, having also won the road race in 2018.

"It was special to win solo here with the awesome atmosphere," said Lippert on SWR and was delighted that she was also able to give her mum a present for her birthday.

Kathrin Hammes from Team EF Education-Tibco-SVB came in second, 1:07 minutes behind Lippert. In the sprint, 1:13 seconds behind Lippert, Romy Kasper from AG Insurance - Soudal Quick Step took third place.

On Friday, Mieke Kröger was the fastest rider in the time trial and took the title for the second time. The 29-year-old won by just under a second ahead of Katharina Fox, while Clara Koppenburg was the third fastest time trialist.

On Sunday, the men will start the 215-kilometre route at 11.30 a.m. in Donaueschingen. After five hours, the pros are expected to cross the finish line in Bad Dürrheim.
