Eight-time track cycling world champion Emma Hinze has changed her coach just under nine months before the Olympic Games in Paris.
The 26-year-old from Cottbus, who won silver in the team sprint at the 2021 Games in Tokyo, will now be coached by former sprinter Maximilian Levy. This was announced by Track Team Brandenburg. Levy has been working as a short-term junior national coach for the German Cycling Federation (BDR) since the end of his career in autumn 2021 and will also coach Hinze. Levy and Hinze are also a couple in their private lives.
"I'm looking forward to Maximilian Levy's input. He himself was a very successful international athlete for over a decade and was always characterised by his high level of professionalism. I can definitely benefit from that," said Hinze, who won the team sprint and time trial titles at the World Championships in Glasgow in August. Hinze's first competition together with Levy as coach will be an international race in Newport/Wales on 3-4 November.
Hinze was previously supervised by Aleksander Harisanow. "Harisanow had expressed the wish to return to normal teaching duties in the summer. After some hesitation, we accepted this opportunity. With the change of coach, we want to provide further impetus on the way to the 2024 Olympic Games," said national base manager Detlef Uibel. Above all, he hopes that the change will make Hinze more stable in competition.
