The Frenchman from the team Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl announced on Monday that he had contracted the coronavirus and would therefore have to withdraw from the Tour de Wallonie.
The 30-year-old was in April crashed heavily at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and subsequently missed the Tour de France. The tour in Belgium was only the second race since his crash.
The infection is also a setback for Alaphilippe's preparations for the World Championships. The classics specialist wants to win the rainbow jersey for the third time at the end of September in Wollongong, Australia.
