Despite Vuelta crash: Alaphilippe at the start of the World Championships

Despite his bad luck with injury, French cycling star Julian Alaphilippe will tackle the defence of his title at the Road World Championships in Wollongong, Australia, which begin on Sunday. The 2020 and 2021 world champion is in the French squad, as the federation announced.

There was a big question mark behind Alaphilippe's start in the World Championship road race on 25 September after he dislocated his shoulder at the Vuelta. It was his second serious injury this year. A crash in the spring classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège had cost him several months and meant that he was also unable to start in the Tour de France.
