"This will be the hardest stage of this Deutschland Tour - even compared to the following day. We took all the climbs we could. I hope that the peloton really splits up today. On the way, we pass at the foot of the Hermann monument. It's a beautiful backdrop. And shortly afterwards, another climb, the Gauseköte, where spectators can sit nicely on a meadow at the edge of the route. Because the stage is already difficult at the start, there could be a strong breakaway group and a fast race on the journey into the Sauerland. The finish in Arnsberg is flat, but the final lap in the Sauerland region around Arnsberg and Neheim is a tough one! There aren't any huge mountains, but it's all up and down and is also technically demanding. From the last mountain, there are still four kilometres to the finish. It's only 2,200 metres in altitude today, but the finale is harder than tomorrow."

Hot spot: The route below the Hermann monument. You should have seen it at least once. You can visit the statue from the track with a short hike. It's worth travelling there with the family. There are school holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia at this time.

Fabian Wegmann knows how difficult it is to reconcile the wishes of the riders with the requirements of a race organiser and the safety requirements. The 45-year-old from Münster, once a successful professional with the Gerolsteiner and Milram teams and three German championship titles, was involved in the planning of the route and presents the five days of racing.
