Sprinters Lea Sophie Friedrich, Pauline Grabosch and Emma Hinze won the second gold medal for Germany at the European Track Cycling Championships in Munich.

The Olympic silver medallists from Tokyo defeated the trio from the Netherlands in the final at the European Championships in 38.061 seconds. The women's four had previously won the European Championships title. The Polish women secured third place by beating France in the small final.

Crashes in track cycling competitions at the European Championships

The qualification for the final heats was overshadowed by a spectacular fall by co-favourite Great Britain. A technical error caused Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane to fall at the end of the first of three laps and they had to receive medical treatment on the track for several minutes.

However, both riders are doing well and will come back stronger, the British Cycling Federation announced.
