Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani proposes that the Giro d'Italia 2024 should start in Ukraine.
Politician brings up start of the Giro d'Italia in Ukraine
"I would like to see the Giro start in Ukraine next year, should circumstances allow," said the politician at an event for the traditional Tour of Italy in Rome. For him, sport is "a tool of foreign policy", emphasised Tajani according to media reports.
This year's Giro d'Italia begins next Saturday with a time trial on the Adriatic coast of eastern Italy. In the past, however, the organisers of the second most important cycling tour of the year have often chosen starting locations abroad, sometimes far away, such as Budapest (2022), Jerusalem (2018), Apeldoorn/Netherlands (2016), Belfast (2014) or Herning/Denmark (2012).
