Kletterte beim Giro auf den siebten Gesamtrang: Lennard Kämna.

The German professional cyclist Lennard Kämna has climbed to seventh place overall in the 106th Giro d'Italia after his team-mate Alexander Wlassow was forced to withdraw due to illness. The 26-year-old finished 14th in the small peloton on the rainy tenth stage over 196 kilometres from Scandiano to Viareggio.

The day's victory went to the Danish breakaway king Magnus Cort Nielsen, who prevailed in the sprint of a three-man group ahead of the Canadian Derek Gee and the Italian Alessandro de Marchi. The German sprinter Pascal Ackermann finished in fifth place.

Former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas successfully defended the overall lead. The Welshman had taken the lead after world champion Remco Evenepoel from Belgium dropped out before the rest day due to a positive corona test. Kämna is 1:52 minutes behind Thomas.

Vlasov has to give up in sixth place

Vlasov had to abandon the German Bora-hansgrohe team. The Russian had problems right from the start and was unable to keep up with the pace of the peloton. After around 70 of the 196 kilometres to be completed, Bora announced that the Russian had abandoned the race. At this point, Vlasov was in sixth place overall and just over a minute behind Thomas.

The Giro continues on Wednesday with the eleventh stage over 219 kilometres from Camaiore to Tortona. On the undulating terrain, there are two third-category and one fourth-category mountain classifications to tackle.
