RCS Sports, organiser of the men's Giro and other races in Italy, is taking over the organisation of the women's Tour of Italy for the first time in 2024 and has also directly renamed the Giro d'Italia Donne. By using the English suffix instead of the Italian one, the media group is setting itself apart from its predecessors.
Originally, the women's route was to be presented alongside the men's route, but apparently not all the details have been finalised yet. As a result, Italian champion Elisa Longo Borghini and Letizia Paternosta, who rides both on the track and on the road, were only able to marvel at the newly developed trophy.
A silver, horizontal eight - or in other words, a symbol of infinity - will be awarded to the winner of the Giro d'Italia Women in future. The work of art thus ties in with the men's trophy. The Troefeo Senza Fine, the golden spiral that has been awarded to the winner since 1999, is intended as a reminder of endless roads and endless emotions and challenges, but also of the long history of the Tour of Italy.
