Liane Lippert, who came fourth in the world championships, narrowly missed out on victory in the tough Flèche Wallonne cycling race. The 25-year-old from Friedrichshafen was only beaten by Demi Vollering from the Netherlands after 127.3 kilometres on the up to 20 percent steep Mur de Huy.
Lippert finished five seconds behind, third place went to the Italian Gaia Realini. Vollering had already won the Amstel Gold Race on Sunday at the start of the Ardennes races.
