Carapaz has been under contract with the British Ineos-Grenadiers racing team since the 2020 season, during which time he won Olympic gold in the 2021 road race in Tokyo and finished third overall in the Tour de France shortly beforehand. In 2019, the climbing specialist became the first rider from his country to win the Giro d'Italia.
"There are still things I haven't achieved. I would love to try and win another Grand Tour. It has always been a life goal to win the Tour de France. I'm going to fight for that," said Carapaz, who will also be joined on his new team by the two Germans Jonas Rutsch and Georg Steinhauser. At the Tour de France, which starts this Friday in Utrecht, the Netherlands Vuelta Carapaz is one of the contenders for overall victory.
