The Italian professional cyclist Filippo Baroncini from UAE Team Emirates - XRG suffered serious injuries in a crash on the third stage of the Tour de Pologne.

This is the result of an update that UAE Team Emirates - XRG published on Wednesday evening. According to team doctor Dr Adrian Rotunno Filippo Baroncini several facial injuries, a fracture of a cervical vertebra and fractures to the face and collarbone. "Unfortunately, Filippo Baroncini was injured in a crash on the third stage of the Tour de Pologne today," explained Dr Adrian Rotunno. "He suffered several facial injuries, including a broken cervical vertebra (without neurological deficits) and fractures to his face and collarbone. He is currently hospitalised and under the care of our medical team," Rotunno continued. The team announced further updates on the 24-year-old Italian's health and emphasised that all thoughts are with Baroncini.

Serious crash during the Tour of Poland 2025

The serious fall occurred during the third stage of the Tour of Poland and led to the race being interrupted. After the accident, which also involved Mathias Vacek and overall leader Lapeira as well as Baroncini, the race was neutralised for more than 15 minutes before the third stage could continue.



Other drivers affected

In addition to Filippo Baroncini, Mathias Vacek also had to leave the race after the crash. The Lidl-Trek rider suffered a cut on his lip, which required stitches, and was also taken to hospital for examination. Overall leader Lapeira was also involved in the accident, but was able to continue the race.

In its statement, UAE Team Emirates - XRG was visibly concerned about Baroncini's condition and assured the public that it would keep them informed about his recovery. Baroncini is regarded as a promising talent in cycling. The 24-year-old Italian rides for the World Tour team UAE Team Emirates - XRG and has already achieved some notable successes in his young career. His world championship title in the U23 road race category, which he won in 2021, is particularly noteworthy.
