Bora-Profi Lennard Kämna gewann die dritte Etappe der Tour of the Alps.

German professional cyclist Lennard Kämna has won the third stage of the difficult Tour of the Alps, underlining his good form ahead of the Giro d'Italia.

The 26-year-old won the mountain finish in Brentonico San Valentino after 162.5 kilometres, four seconds ahead of his Russian Bora team-mate Alexander Vlasov. The former junior world champion thus improved to sixth place in the overall standings. He is 45 seconds behind the British leader Tao Geoghegan Hart.

"It seems that the third stage here always suits me particularly well. I had already won here last year. Today I realised that I couldn't wait until the very end to attack. My form is good, but I still lack the explosiveness to go on the attacks, which is why I tried relatively early on," said Kämna after his first win of the season.

For Kämna, the five-day tour is the final endurance test before the Giro d'Italia, which begins on 6 May. There, the North German wants to tackle the overall classification in a Grand Tour for the first time. In the past, he has already caused a stir with stage wins in the Tour de France and the Giro in the high mountains. The Tour of the Alps ends on Friday in Brunico.
