This was announced by the Spanish team on Saturday. Quintana will receive a one-year contract. "It's very emotional for me to return home. It's been such a tough year. So many days where I got on my bike and kept going, in the rain or the scorching sun. But it was all worth it. I'm not going to waste this opportunity," explained Nairo Quintana in the Movistar team press release.
The former Giro and Vuelta winner from Colombia was found to have used the painkiller Tramadol at the 2022 Tour de France. According to the UCI, the use of Tramadol is not a doping offence, but a violation of the medical rules of the cycling world federation. Quintana was stripped of his sixth place at the time, but the offence did not result in a ban. Nevertheless, he cancelled his contract with the French team Arkea Samsic.
He is now making his comeback with the Movistar team, for whom the 33-year-old rode from 2012 to 2019 and celebrated his greatest successes there. Among other things, he finished second overall in the Tour in 2013 and 2015.
