Strong sprint specialists in the classics can hope to win the Deutschland Tour this year.
The race is characterised by a prologue and three undulating stages with short climbs. The sprinters will get their chance on the final day. The 724-kilometre route from Sankt Wendel in Saarland to Bremen was officially unveiled in Frankfurt. The race will be held from 23 to 27 August.
"Five days of racing and it's all there. The short time trial at the start will once again be a thriller by the second. Whoever wins here can't rest on their laurels over the next few days. I expect a real hunt for the red jersey in Saarland, Sauerland and on the way to Essen," said Fabian Wegmann, sport director of the Tour. In the end, there will probably only be a few seconds between the overall winner and the runner-up.
Last year, Britain's Adam Yates won the tour, which was held over five days again for the first time. Due to the route profile, however, climbers like the 30-year-old are likely to have a harder time, as there is no long, demanding climb.
