In the men's race, the Germans Miguel Heidemann (Trier) and Maximilian Walscheid (Heidelberg) did not finish in the top ten. The 24-year-old Heidemann finished 16th in 28:51.42 minutes for 24 kilometres. Cofidis pro Walscheid only finished 25th after a crash in 29:47.17 minutes.
The European champion was Stefan Bissegger from Switzerland (27:05.96), who won by just one second ahead of his compatriot Stefan Küng and world champion Filippo Ganna (+0:09) from Italy.
The European track champions Lisa Brennauer (Durach) in twelfth place and Lisa Klein (Erfurt) in 23rd place missed out on the top ten in the women's time trial with start and finish in Fürstenfeldbruck. After 24 kilometres, the 34-year-old Brennauer finished in 32:57.73 minutes, 1:58.00 minutes behind European champion Marlen Reusser from Switzerland.
The 26-year-old Klein was 3:36.00 minutes slower than the title holder. World champion Ellen van Dijk from the Netherlands won silver ahead of her compatriot Riejanne Markus.
"It really didn't go so well today. Twelfth place is obviously not at all the result I had hoped for," said Lisa Brennauer after the penultimate race of her career. However, she was delighted with the atmosphere on the track. "The people carried me round the course even though my legs were so heavy," she said. The seven-time world champion will end her career after the road race on Sunday.
Lisa Klein was also not satisfied with her result. "The race was good at the start. I love time trialling. And then halfway through the race I exploded and then it was a very long way back," she said. She was out of breath and had a side stitch, something she is not used to. "Then nothing worked anymore," said the Erfurt rider, who was unable to train properly due to a severe coronavirus infection in the run-up to the European Championships.
