The Tour de Suisse 2025 reaches its sporting climax on 19 June. The 5th stage from La Punt to Santa Maria in the canton of Graubünden is considered the queen stage of this year's tour. Over a distance of 183.5 kilometres, the riders have to conquer a total of 3620 metres in altitude and cross four 1st category mountain classifications. The start in La Punt is at 12:05, the finish in Santa Maria is expected at around 17:00.

Tour de Suisse 2025: Four times 1st category

The first major challenge awaits the peloton right at the start of the stage with the Julier Pass. At an altitude of 2279 metres above sea level, the Julier Pass marks the highest point of the entire Tour de Suisse 2025. After crossing the Julier Pass, the second obstacle of the day follows with the San Bernardino Pass (2066 metres). The final obstacle is the steep climb to Santa Maria in Calanca, which has to be tackled twice. This is 4.5 kilometres long with an average gradient of 9.8 per cent. For the last three kilometres or so, the gradient no longer falls below 10 percent.

Scenic highlights along the route

In addition to the sporting challenges, the stage also offers scenic highlights. Shortly after the start, spectators can admire historic Engadine houses in La Punt. The route then leads through the picturesque Upper Engadine lake plateau between Maloja and St. Moritz, which presents itself with its almost kitschy beauty. At the San Bernardino Pass, the riders cross a mystical moorland landscape, past the Laghetto Moesola. The finish in Santa Maria in Calanca finally welcomes the pros with its unique nature and proverbial hospitality.
