The 30-year-old completed his overall victory in Stuttgart after taking the overall leader's red jersey at the mountain top finish on the Schauinsland the day before.

After 186.6 kilometres from Schiltach to the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, the day's victory was secured by the Spaniard Pello Bilbao in the sprint of a leading group, who finished in second place 22 seconds behind Yates. Portuguese rider Ruben Guerreiro came second on the day ahead of Georg Zimmermann from Augsburg. Zimmermann ultimately missed out on the final podium by three seconds in fourth place overall.

The tour began on Wednesday with a prologue in Weimar and ended in the Baden-Württemberg state capital after a total of 710.7 kilometres, just like in 2018. Yates is the successor to Nils Politt, who took the overall victory last year.
