The 23-year-old Belgian from Soudal - Quick Step finished second on the stage, 14 seconds behind the Colombian Einer Rubio (Movistar) crossed the finish line. The 25-year-old won the mountain finish on the Jebel Jais mountain on his birthday.
Nikias Arndt (Bahrain-Victorious), who had climbed to third place overall on the second stage of the Tour of the United Arab Emirates, dropped back significantly. The best German after three stages for the time being is 21-year-old Georg Steinhauser (EF Education EasyPost) in ninth place.
