Jonas Vingegaard's first victory in the Tour de France is now only theoretically possible.

Vingegaard keeps yellow jersey

The Dane from the team Jumbo-Visma successfully defended his yellow jersey on Saturday by finishing second in the 40.7 kilometre individual time trial from Lacapelle-Marival to Rocamadour.

Vingegaard is 3:34 minutes ahead of defending champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), who finished third in the battle against the clock. As there is traditionally no attacking on the final stage to Paris on Sunday, only an unfortunate crash by Vingegaard could prevent the second Danish Tour victory after Bjarne Riis.

Van Aert with next Tour de France stage win

The day's victory on the hilly course was secured by Wout van Aert. The Belgian took 47:59 minutes, which corresponds to an average speed of 50.9 kilometres per hour. It was van Aert's third stage win. The best German was Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) in ninth place.

The peloton starts on Sunday in Paris for the Tour d'Honneur. From La Défense Arena, the riders first head out of the city in a westerly direction before heading into the centre via the Cote du Pavé des Gardes and completing the obligatory final laps on the Champs-Élysées. The favourite to win after 115.6 kilometres is van Aert, who already won there last year.
