Belgian professional cyclist Remco Evenepoel has had to relinquish the overall lead in the Tour of Spain 2023. The time trial world champion surprisingly lost a lot of time to the leaders when US cycling pro Sepp Kuss won the sixth stage.
Frenchman Lenny Martinez, who finished second in the uphill finish ahead of Romain Bardet after a steep climb to the Javalambre observatory, took the red jersey. He is now eight seconds ahead of Kuss and 2:47 minutes ahead of Evenepoel.
At the end of the 183.1 kilometres, no German rider made it into the top ten. Lennard Kämna and Emanuel Buchmann were still part of a leading group of more than 30 riders a few kilometres before the finish, but both fell back.
On Friday, the riders face a lively zigzag course downhill from Utiel to Oliva. After an undulating descent of 700 metres in altitude, a flat section awaits the pros on the remaining 90 of the 200 kilometres, which promises a bunch sprint. Australian Kaden Grooves is one of the favourites to win the day. The 24-year-old has already won two stages and finished second once.
