Radsportlerin Lotte Kopecky hat in Glasgow das Straßenrennen der Frauen gewonnen.

Belgium's Lotte Kopecky won the women's road race at the end of the World Cycling Championships in Scotland.

After 154.1 kilometres, the 27-year-old took victory ahead of Dutch Tour winner Demi Vollering and Cecilie Ludwig from Denmark. German champion Liane Lippert, who was one of the favourites going into the race, had to settle for 19th place.

In the U23 class, which was held as part of the women's competition, time trial world champion Antonia Niedermaier's hopes of another medal were also dashed. The 20-year-old missed the connection to the peloton early on. Gold went to Hungary's Blanka Vas ahead of Shirin van Anrooij from the Netherlands and Anna Shackley (Great Britain).

The German team is still waiting for its first medal in the women's road race since 2014, when Lisa Brennauer finished in second place. The last title win was 18 years ago. In Scotland, the German Cycling Federation team only managed a third place in the mixed relay in the elite races. There were also three other medals in the junior category.
