Nils Politt

Nils Politt is a German racing cyclist and was born in Cologne on 6 March 1994. He currently rides for the UCI World Tour team UAE Team Emirates.

Career of Nils Politt

Politt is a classics specialist. He celebrated his greatest success with a stage win at the Tour de France The rider from Cologne has his greatest strengths on hilly stages of tours, one-day races and time trials. He can also be an important helper on flat and hilly terrain.

2018

Nils Politt celebrated his breakthrough in 2018 with the then Team Katusha Alpecin. He finished second on the fifth stage of Paris-Nice and seventh in the Paris-Roubaix Monument. As in the previous year, Politt took part in the Tour de France in 2018. At the Deutschland Tour, he was only beaten by Matej Mohoric and also won the final fourth stage. He also finished on the podium at the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro.

2019

Politt once again finished second in a Paris-Nice stage - this time in the time trial. He again performed strongly in the spring classics: he finished sixth in the E3 Prize and fifth in the Tour of Flanders. At the Paris-Roubaix Monument, he was only beaten by Philippe Gilbert. At the Tour de France, he achieved a top ten finish for the first time on the fifth stage.

2020

Politt then spent the 2020 season with Team Israel Start-Up Nation - now operating under the name Israel-Premier Tech. However, he was unable to build on his strong performances there. His best result was a fourth place in a Paris-Nice stage, so he subsequently moved on.

2021

In 2021, Nils Politt rode for Bora-Hansgrohe and celebrated his greatest success to date in his first year with the German team. He won the twelfth stage of the Tour de France from Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux to Nimes as a soloist. In the same year, he also won the Deutschland Tour, including a stage victory.

2022

In spring 2022, Politt once again underlined his strength in the classics. He finished fifth in Dwars door Vlaanderen and won his home race Rund um Köln. He also became German road race champion and helped his team-mate Aleksandr Vlasov to fifth place overall in the Tour de France.

2023

Nils Politt once again achieved top ten results in the one-day races Dwars door Vlaanderen, Bemer Cyclassics and Rund um Köln. He also finished in the top ten in the overall rankings of the Deutschland Tour and Tour of Britain. However, he celebrated his greatest success with the German time trial title. Before the end of the season, Politt announced that he would be joining UAE Team Emirates from 2024.

2024

In spring 2024, Nils Politt returned to his best times. First he raced second place at Omloop het Nieuwsblad to kick off the cobblestone classics campaignA few weeks later, he was with third place in the Tour of Flanders his second podium in a Monument. At the end of his cobbled classic campaign, he finished fourth in Paris-Roubaix. In June, shortly before the start of the Tour de France, he also took the title at the German individual time trial championships.

Nils Politt: Contract

For the 2024 season, Nils Politt moved from the German team Bora-Hansgrohe to UAE Team Emirates - the team led by superstar Tadej Pogacar. He signed a three-year contract there until the end of 2026.
