The Tubihead looks like a showpiece from a technology museum, because its transparent plastic reveals the function inside - and it is well worth seeing: normally, to inflate tubeless tyres, you have to remove the Presta valve core so that sufficient air can flow into the tyre. If you then remove the pump, the air in the tyre is gone again.
The Tubihead has an integrated corkscrew, so to speak. The pump head is placed on the valve and the core is unscrewed from the valve stem using the integrated tool. No air loss, but maximum air flow. This works perfectly as long as the Tubihead can be pushed about 1.5 centimetres onto the shaft - only then does the tool take hold.
During pumping, the valve core sits securely in the pump head. Air now flows unhindered into the tyre, which makes tubeless mounting noticeably easier. Even tyres that usually have difficulty jumping into the rim well were easy to inflate in the test. The Tubihead has a deflation valve for fine-tuning the air pressure. A small nose helps when putting the pump head on and off, as it sits relatively tightly on the valve stem.
The Topeak Tubihead is only available as a kit with a 110 cm hose. An attachment for car valves is also included. If the Topeak hose connection does not fit your own pump, the Tubihead can also be fitted to the existing hose with a little skill.
The pump head has a high-quality finish and works perfectly. Thanks to the significantly improved air flow, tubeless tyres can be inflated easily - without the air escaping again afterwards. The integrated deflation valve is practical, but the tight fit on the valve takes some getting used to.
