Alec Segaert has won the individual time trial on stage 2 of the Renewi Tour 2024. The 21-year-old from Lotto-Dstny celebrated his first World Tour victory and takes the lead in the overall standings.

An individual time trial was on the programme for stage 2 of the Renewi Tour 2024. Alec Segaert (Lotto-Dstny) completed the 15.4 kilometres around Tessenderlo in 16:59 minutes with an average time of 54. The young Belgian was seven seconds faster than Magnus Sheffield (Ineos Grenadiers) in second place. Stefan Bissegger (EF Education EasyPost) was third, ten seconds behind. Maximilian Schachmann (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) was the best German, 27 seconds behind in ninth place.

Segaert now leads the overall standings of the Renewi Tour by seven seconds ahead of Sheffield. Schachmann improves to seventh place overall. Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates) in fourth place has the best chance of defending his title. In contrast, the other top favourite Mathieu van der Poel is already 20 seconds behind Wellens in 16th place.

On Friday, the sprinters are likely to take to the road again on the 185.5 kilometres between Blankenberge and Ardooie. The overall victory is likely to be decided on Sunday on the classic course around Geraardsbergen.
