From June 2025, the Gravel Trans Jura (GTJ) offers an individual cycling adventure over 415 kilometres and 12,000 metres in altitude through six Swiss cantons. The bikepacking route leads over gravel paths, passes and high plateaus and is ideal for gravel bikes. A comprehensive support package assists with the planning.

The Gravel Trans Jura (GTJ) is expanding its offer and will enable gravel bikers to enjoy an individual adventure away from organised events from June 2025. The 415-kilometre route with an elevation gain of around 12,000 metres leads through six different Swiss cantons and promises a mixture of sporting challenge and scenic enjoyment. Unlike the event, e-bikes are also permitted on the GTJ Individual alongside gravel and mountain bikes. The route runs 70 to 80 per cent on unpaved paths, without including extreme mountain bike terrain.

Route characteristics and landscape

The GTJ route combines natural paths, a few single trails, forest roads and quiet side roads. It leads over remote gravel paths, passes and high plateaus through the Jura forests. According to the organisers, the route offers magnificent views of the Alps, the Jura and Lake Geneva. According to the press release, the Gravel Trans Jura aims to show how natural, wild and unspoilt Switzerland is off the beaten track. The ride starts in the spa town of Baden, at the foot of the last Jura foothills "Lägern". After Brugg, the route leads uphill for the first time and crosses the canton of Aargau with steep climbs and descents. After crossing the Salhöhe, the border game between the canton of Baselland and the canton of Solothurn begins. The village of Balsthal is the last sign of civilisation for some time. The route then crosses the long ridge of the Grenchnerberg into the Bernese Jura. High above the Lac de Neuchâtel, you reach the last of a total of six cantons, the canton of Vaud. The route then runs close to the French border to the destination of Nyon, on Lac Léman.

A support package is designed to facilitate the individual planning and realisation of the tour. It includes a GPX track of the route, a detailed roadmap with all accommodation, restaurants and shopping facilities along the route as well as a specially developed app. With these tools, participants can plan their adventure in detail in advance or set off spontaneously.
