Professional cyclist Phil Bauhaus narrowly missed out on a stage win at the 58th edition of the Italian long-distance race Tirreno-Adriatico.

The 28-year-old Bocholter from Bahrain-Victorious After 216 kilometres from Follonica to Foligno, he was only beaten in the sprint on stage 3 by the Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) were beaten. Biniam Girmay (Intermarche-Circus-Wanty) from Eritrea sprinted to third place.

Tirreno-Adriatico 2023: Lennard Kämna still in a good position

Meanwhile, Lennard Kämna (Bora-Hansgrohe) remains in a promising position in the race for overall victory. The German defended his second place overall and is still 28 seconds behind the Italian Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers).

A stepping up of the pace of the Dutch Jumbo-Visma team led by three-time Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic and the attentive Kämna briefly broke away from the peloton around eleven kilometres before the finish. In the end, however, the escapees were caught again and the expected bunch sprint ensued.

Mini mountain finish on stage 4

The race continues on Thursday with the fourth stage over 218 kilometres from Greccio to the mini mountain finish in Tortoreto. The long-distance race ends on Sunday in San Benedetto del Tronto.
